AMMAN — A total of 1,066 non-recidivist defendants were handed community service as an alternative to a jail sentence, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Secretary-General of the Judicial Council Ali Mseimi said that this decision comes in light of the recent amendments to the Penal Code related to alternative measures to custodial penalties and that the Judicial Council will ensure the proper implementation of these amendments with the decision.
He pointed out that a specialised training programme was designed for judges to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to apply these alternative sentences.
