11 COVID deaths, 840 virus cases recorded Sunday

AMMAN — Eleven COVID-19 deaths and 840 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 730,546.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 9,368, according to a government statement.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 3.81 per cent, compared with 3.31 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 22,060 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 7,118,897, according to the statement.

The statement added that 1,022 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 710,608.

The statement added that there are currently 10,570 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 79 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 604, the statement said, adding that 101 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 11 per cent, ICU beds reached 25 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 18 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 13 per cent, 26 per cent for ICUs and 11 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 7 per cent, 7 per cent for ICUs and 6 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 383 infections in Amman, 127 in Irbid, including three cases in Ramtha District, 82 in Zarqa, 47 in Mafraq, 40 in Karak, 35 in Ajloun, 29 in Balqa, 26 in Madaba, 24 in Jerash, 18 in Aqaba, 15 in Tafileh and 14 in Maan.
