11th epidemiological week witnessed 64% drop in COVID cases — Bilbeisi

AMMAN  — The 11th epidemiological week spanning between March 12 and 18 recorded 9,135 virus cases, compared with 25,502 cases during the 10th week, marking a drop of 64 per cent, adviser at the Prime Ministry for Health Affairs and the official in charge of the COVID-19 pandemic Adel Bilbeisi said on Sunday.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Bilbeisi said that the 11th week witnessed 44 deaths compared with 77 deaths in the 10thepidemiological week, marking a drop of 43 per cent.

On the national vaccination programme, he said that the number of shots administered during the 11th week stood at 11,460 for the first dose, 17,004 for the second, and 18,298 for the booster jab, totaling 46,762 shots, compared with 65,393 shots during the 10th week, marking a drop of 29 per cent.

He noted that the total number of the first shots administered reached 4,723,777, some 74 per cent of the target group, above the age of 18 years, 44 per cent of the Kingdom’s population, while the number of those received their second shots was 4,427,430, nearly 69 per cent of the target group above 18 years, accounting for 41 per cent of the total population.

Regarding people aged 12 to17 years , he said that a total of 218,318 received their first dose and 170,252 are fully vaccinated.

A total of  145 children aged 5 to 11 received the first dose and 36 received the second, according to Bilbeisi.
