3,900 Syrian families registered under regularisation campaign

AMMAN — The Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) support to the government and UNHCR’s campaign has allowed at least 30,000 Syrian refugees living outside designated refugee camps to rectify their legal status, therefore accessing essential services such as education and health, humanitarian assistance and obtaining work permits, a NRC statement said.

More than 3,900 families representing around 16,000 individuals have approached NRC since the beginning of March in Irbid, Mafraq, Jerash, Ajloun, Ramtha Amman, Balqa and Zarqa governorates and have been referred to UNHCR.

1,230 of these families have been issued UNHCR Asylum Seeker Certificates, and 1,095 individuals have obtained a Ministry of Interior Service card so far.

The campaign will last until the end of September 2018. “The number of Syrian refugees legally residing in Jordan will grow as more refugees go through this rectification process, allowing more children to be enrolled in school and access other services while more adults can access work permits,” NRC Jordan Country Director Carlo Gherardi said.
