4.7 per cent of cheques returned since January — Central Bank

AMMAN — Returned cheques in the first six months of the year made up 4.7 per cent of the total number of cheques, 2.9 per cent of which were returned due to insufficient balance, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) announced on Thursday.
The number of returned cheques stood at 234,000 out of 4.991 million cheques processed in the January to June period of 2017, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported citing CBJ data. The returned cheques valued some JD759 million out of the total value of JD22.413 billion in the same period.
