AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) registered 51,727 littering violations through its surveillance cameras between January and October this year, head of GAM’s electronic monitoring department, Ali Marafi, said Sunday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the fines aim to modify citizens’ behaviour when dealing with the environment.
Marafi added that GAM has 10 cars equipped with cameras roaming the streets of the capital to observe littering violations by taking photos and transferring them to the Traffic Department.
Amman Mayor Aqel Biltaji recently said that Amman population has reached 3.5 million.
