AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Wednesday approved an agreement worth $5.8 million designed to rehabilitate the water networks of the Balqa’s Ain Al Basha District and establish a new reservoir. The USAID-funded agreement is part of the “Fixed Amount Reimbursement Agreement" (FARA), aimed to rehabilitate water networks. Minister of Water Mohammed Najjar said that as per the agreement, main and subsidiary water lines will be assembled and new reservoirs will be established in the district.
This highlights the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve water supply and distribution efficiency, as well as reduce loss and cut energy costs, according to a ministry statement. He also commended donor countries' efforts to support the Kingdom’s water sector, notably the USAID projects to reduce water loss. Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) Secretary General Bashar Bataineh said that the 18-month rehabilitation project focuses on constructing a water reservoir, improving water conveyance systems, rehabilitating the water networks and adopting the SCADA system to remotely monitor and control supply operations.
