7,140 remote trials held in two years — Justice Ministry

AMMAN — A total of 7,140 remote trials were conducted throughout a two-year period, saving financial costs of detainees’ transportation and preventing contacts amid exceptional circumstances imposed by COVID-19 pandemic, according to official figures.
Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni said that the remote trial project is aimed at facilitating and accelerating litigation procedures and reducing time, efforts and financial costs as well as mitigating risks in detainees’ transportation.
The first remote trial session, described by the Ministry of Justice as a “qualitative leap in the criminal justice system and the strengthening of the rule of law”, was held on July 24, 2018.
