AMMAN — The Arab Bridge Maritime Company transported 140,000 passengers from Aqaba to Nuweiba and vice versa during the first half of 2024, compared with 107,000 passengers during the same period of 2023, marking a 30 per cent increase.
The number of tourists on the Aqaba-Taba route decreased this year due to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, with the number of tourists during the first half of last year reaching around 50,000 compared with 35,000 tourists during the same period this year.
ABMC General Manager Adnan Abadleh said on Sunday to Al Mamlaka TV that the Aqaba-Nuweiba route is witnessing a "significant" shift in the volume of exchanges with Egypt, with 42,000 trucks transporting industrial and agricultural products from Aqaba to Nuweiba and vice versa since the beginning of this year, compared with 24,000 trucks during the same period last year.
Abadleh added that the company transported some 6,200 pilgrims this season on 184 buses, noting that the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism allocated around 6,000 pilgrims from Egypt to perform the Hajj pilgrimage this season on the company's fleet, registering an increase of 50 per cent from last year.
He also pointed out that the increase in the transport of trucks between Aqaba and Nuweiba and vice versa reached 55 per cent during the first half of 2024.
Abadleh also noted that the number of cars transported reached 3,759 vehicles in the January-June period of 2024, compared with 3,143 vehicles in the corresponding period of last year.
