Abul Saud meets with US charge’ d’affaires to discuss water projects

AMMAN — Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abul Saud received US Charge’ d’Affaires Karen Sasahara, in the presence of the Acting Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Margaret Spears at the Water Ministry on Wednesday, where they reviewed the progress of a number of projects funded by USAID and upcoming projects to improve water supply in the Kingdom.
According to a statement from the Water Ministry, Abul Saud expressed his appreciation for the continued US support to the water sector, particularly in light of the coronavirus pandemic, highlighting the “urgent need” to implement additional projects to address the large and growing scarcity and a rise in demand as a result of increased domestic use.
For her part, Sasahara stressed United States’ interest in expanding cooperation and providing solutions in the field of modern water management through the provision of assistance and expertise, especially through USAID.
She confirmed the agency’s interest in accelerating the implementation of strategic water projects which will contribute to developing water conditions and improving sanitation services. According to the statement, demand for water in the Kingdom has risen to more than 610 million cubic metres due to the pandemic.
