ACC, JEDCO sign memorandum to boost start-ups owners, SMEs

AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and implement support programmes that target owners of start-ups and SMEs, to help them carry out successful projects.

According to an ACC statement, reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Saturday, the two sides underlined the importance of supporting and increasing the size of SMEs, in a way that contributes the economic and social development, as well as reduces the unemployment.

They also called for promoting and supporting entrepreneurship and start-ups in their path towards sustainable growth, highlighting the need to train and qualify entrepreneurs so that they can successfully overcome challenges and obstacles.

Under the memorandum, the two parties will collaborate on executing development plans for each beneficiary project, monitoring implementation, evaluating achievements and impacts, conducting media coverage and promotional campaigns, sharing information and expertise, as well as designing and implementing training programmes and hosting seminars for targeted groups.

During the signing ceremony, ACC President Khalil Hajj Tawfiq highlighted the important efforts of JEDCO in supporting and increasing the size of SMEs and macro enterprises in a way that meets the needs of entrepreneurs in the private sector, and contributes to unleashing their creativity under the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV). 

The JEDCO’s CEO Abdulfattah Al Kayed emphasised that the EMV has focused on expanding support for SMEs, recognising their role in supporting the national economy, boosting the employment and improving the living conditions of citizens.
