ACC reports decline in exports in first half of 2024

AMMAN — Exports from the Amman Chamber of Industry during the first half of 2024 amounted to JD3.392 billion, compared with JD3.475 billion for the same period last year, 2023.
Six sectors recorded an increase in their exports, ranging from 2.1 per cent for the leather and garment industries to 30.8 per cent for the plastics and rubber sectors, according to statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
Exports from the remaining four industrial sectors declined, ranging from a 0.2 per cent decrease for the food, agricultural, and livestock industries to a 32.3 per cent drop for the mining industries.
Four countries, both Arab and foreign, accounted for more than half of the chamber's exports during the first half of this year: India, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, with a combined total of JD2.190 billion.
According to the statistical data, exports to the United States increased by 71 per cent during the first half of this year, reaching about JD941 million compared with JD550 million for the same period last year, making it the top recipient of Amman Chamber of Industry exports.
Geographically, Arab countries led with exports worth JD1.467 billion, followed by non-Arab Asian countries with JD621 million, and African countries with approximately JD17 million.
The chamber's exports during the first half of this year were distributed among various sectors as follows chemical industries and cosmetics valued at about JD878 million, mining industries at JD689 million, engineering, electrical, and information technology industries at JD522 million.
Exports for the food, agricultural and livestock industries amounted to about JD384 million, the therapeutic and medical supplies industries to JD343 million, and the leather and garment industries to JD231 million.
