AMMAN — The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) and the Royal Engineering Corps Directorate (RECD) on Monday signed an agreement to clean and remove sediment and silt from the Mujib Dam.
A JVA statement cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Monday said that the deal, signed by JVA Acting Secretary General Manar Mahasneh and RECD Director Brig. Gen. Imad Khamaiseh, aims to maintain the dam's storage capacity before the upcoming winter.
The agreement came as part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the sides on exchanging expertise and heavy engineering machinery needed to implement water harvesting projects, excavations and dams.
The two sides have already started cleaning the Mujib Dam, which has a storage capacity of 29 million cubic metres of water and is used for drinking, irrigation and other industrial uses, Petra added.
