Agriculture Ministry establishes comprehensive national food security database

AMMAN — During a session on high value industries as part of the “A Year of Modernisation” forum, Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat announced that the ministry has established a comprehensive national food security database to allow decision makers access to relevant data and food security indicators. Also during the session, Hneifat said that 80 per cent of the agricultural industrial complex has been established in the southern Jordan Valley and will be operational early next year. Other ministry projects discussed during the session include the selection of 48 rainwater harvesting sites in the Badia. Also in the Badia, 26 sites have had studies prepared, and 21 have had tenders floated for the construction of dams. Also addressing the session, Director-General of the National Agricultural Research Centre Nizar Haddad revealed that global agricultural production needs to increase by 77 per cent in developing countries, and 24 per cent in developed countries.
