AMMAN — Al Rai for Media Training Studies, a new component of the Jordan Press Foundation (JPF), on Monday concluded a special course on aspects of the military’s interaction with the media for officers of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the JPF Ayman Majali handed out the certificates to the officers participating in the course in the presence of the Farid Silwani, JPF director general, and on behalf of the Moral Guidance Directorate, Maj. Nasser Tawalbeh, director of the JAF Radio Station.
The course included specialised lectures and training on the professional aspects of JAF media officers’ interaction with various local, Arab and international media, as well as legislation governing freedom of expression and information security in Jordan and ethical controls related to publishing.
In a speech addressing the officers, Majali stressed the importance of direct and indirect communication between the media and various institutions concerned with citizens’ affairs in order to convey the state’s message and find professional channels to pass on information.
Majali added that, in light of the progress of communication technology and the rapid circulation of information, this needs to be done in a transparent manner to combat rumours.
He praised the JAF’s belief in the importance of educating personnel on media and called on the JAF to make the most of the experience by further fostering the relationship between the armed forces and media institutions to exchange experiences and hold joint training courses.
The special course was delivered Khalid Qudah and run by the Al Rai Studies and Training Centre.
