AMMAN — Media coverage of terrorism and “boundary-pushing” Arabic drama series will be on the agenda for the third Jordan Festival for Arab Media, the Jordan Media Commission (JMC) said on Tuesday.
“Experts in media and drama from across the Arab world will convene in Amman to examine the impact of new communication tools and technologies on media content,” JMC Director General Amjad Qadi told reporters.
At a press conference, the official said that the festival, which begins on August 22, would shed light on sustainable development in the Arab world.
Sponsored by the Arab League and organised in cooperation with the Jordan Artists Association and Jordan TV, the festival is expected to welcome 700 media experts and artists to the capital.
Participants will discuss the messages disseminated by drama series on Arabic satellite stations, according to Qadi.
“Some of the dramas try to sneak into the minds and hearts of our Arab nation and change beliefs and convictions,” Qadi said.
”This is a very important issue that experts and intellectuals will look into during the festival,” he added.
Other topics to be discussed include Jerusalem in the eyes of the Arab media and ethics in digital media, the JMC president said.
Awards will be presented to the best radio and television productions in the region, he added.
“Holding the festival at this crucial time in the Arab world, with crises in many Arab states, is a testimony both to Jordan’s keenness and to improve media and to the country’s stability,” said the official, who announced that next year’s festival would be held in Aqaba.
