AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Directorate (AND) personnel at the General Customs Department on Tuesday seized 250,000 cartons of cigarettes, each containing 10-20 cigarette packs, after they were smuggled into the Kingdom.
AND Director Col. Raed Shiyyab told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the directorate last week received a tip-off about a “large quantity” of smuggled cigarettes in Amman, which prompted AND, in cooperation with other security institutions, to start an investigation.
Shiyyab added that the case would be referred to the customs prosecutor general.
