Anti-drug police destroy seized narcotics

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has destroyed amounts of narcotics that were confiscated in 213 cases which reached final rulings, a statement from the Public Security Department (PSD) said on Wednesday.
AND Director Brig. Gen. Anwar Tarawneh said 379 Jordanians and 83 foreigners were involved in several cases of trafficking, possession and smuggling, adding that the destroyed narcotics included 629 kilogrammes of hashish, 40 kilogrammes of heroin, 931 grammes of cocaine, 85 kilogrammes of marijuana, 48 kilogrammes and 8944 bags of synthetic cannabis (locally known as ‘joker’), 22,805,784 Captagon pills, and 2,313,200 illegal narcotic pills.
The narcotics were burnt in a furnace equipped with filters to leave no impact on the environment, according to Tarawneh.
