AMMAN — The Arab Parliament's Palestine Committee on Sunday called for forming a fact-finding committee of the UN to detect violations in Israeli prisons.

The committee, during a meeting chaired by Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Al Assoumi, also called for supporting the peace plan launched by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The panel went over the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and the conditions in the occupied territories.

The committee reviewed the efforts of the Arab Parliament to support the Palestinian cause in international events, the latest of which was a tour of several European countries.

The committee also reviewed the outcomes of the meeting of Assoumi with several European figures and heads of parliament.

The meetings highlighted the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause, calling for halting Israeli crimes in occupied Jerusalem and attacks on Al Haram Al Ibrahimi Mosque and other crimes against the Palestinian people.

The committee adopted a draft resolution on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, including items of the peace plan launched by Abbas at the UN and a plan of mobilisation at the African and European levels to support the Palestinian rights.

The committee is scheduled to review the draft resolution to the second session of the Arab Parliament to be held on Thursday in Amman.

At the beginning of the meeting, Assoumi stressed that the Palestinian cause will continue to be the central and first cause for every Arab citizen, noting that “the Arab Parliament will never miss an opportunity to support the Palestinian people”.

Assoumi also praised the Kingdom's role in hosting the session of the Arab Parliament, voicing its confidence that Jordan will offer all its capabilities to ensure the success of the session.
