Area of licensed buildings witnessed 56.7% rise in first 10 months of 2021 — DoS

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings until the end of October 2021 reached 7.011 million square metres, compared with 4.475 million square metres during the same period of 2020, marking a 56.7 per cent increase, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Tuesday.

The department added that the total number of building licences issued in the Kingdom increased by 46.3 per cent during the January-October period of 2021 to 21,916, compared with the same period of 2020, which saw 14,983 licences, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The area of licensed buildings for housing totalled 6.153 million square metres in the first 10 months of 2021, registering an increase of 59.6 per cent, compared with 3.855 million square metres in the same period last year, the DoS said.

The DoS report said that the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 38.4 per cent that amounted to 858,000 square metres in the January-October period of 2021, compared with around 620,000 square metres in the same period last year.

Licensed buildings for housing comprised 87.8 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the department.

The central region of the Kingdom registered 66.6 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, while the north recorded 23.8 per cent and the south witnessed 9.6 per cent, according to the DoS.

At a monthly level, the data showed that the number of building permits in October reached 2,174, while the area of licensed buildings reached 719,000 square metres, compared with 626,000 square metres during the same month of 2020, registering an increase of 14.9 per cent.
