Arrangements in place as Tawjihi commences today

AMMAN — The Tawjihi (general secondary education certificate examination) summer session will start on Tuesday with around 160,000 students from all academic and vocational streams, the Education Ministry said on Monday.

Of the total candidates, 99,927 students are from the regular category and 59,282 are from the private study system, the ministry said as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Students applying for the exam are distributed as follows: 56,268 for the scientific stream, 80,673 for the literary stream, 192 for the religious stream, 2,674 for the information technology stream and 156 for health education.

As for vocational education, 2,664 students have applied for the agricultural stream, 8,184 for the industrial stream and 1,829 for the hotel and hospitality stream.

Among the registered are 37 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centres, who will sit for the exams in nine halls, the ministry noted.

Two exams will be held per day, the first at 10am and the second at 12:30pm.

A total of 124,466 students will sit for Tuesday’s sessions involving all academic and vocational streams, where students will sit for the third level of mathematics and special vocational sciences for home economies stream.

Education Minister Walid Maani said that the ministry has finalised preparations for the Tawjihi summer session which will conclude on July 1, stressing the ministry’s keenness to provide the appropriate environment for students to prepare for the exams.

The exams will be held in 1,469 halls in 513 schools across the Kingdom, where the ministry has also prepared 42 additional halls — one hall for each education directorate in case of emergency.
