Astronomers, photographers and enthusiasts gather to watch Wadi Rum meteor showers

AMMAN — Hundreds of astronomers, photographers and enthusiasts participated in the Perseid Meteor Observation Event organised by the Jordan Astronomical Society (JAS) on Friday night to observe meteor showers above Wadi Rum at a rate of 15 meteors per hour.
Fifteen telescopes of different types and sizes were used alongside other observational equipment and astronomical cameras, according to a JOS statement.
The event aimed to enhance tourism in Jordan and showcase Wadi Rum’s astronomical spectacles.
Wadi Rum has an attractive observational place for astronomers and enthusiasts alike.
The event also saw the participation of delegations from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, Aqaba Governorate and a number of stakeholders.
