AMMAN — The Jordan Breast Cancer Programme (JBCP) has recently completed a training workshop for a group of female volunteers and health workers in Maan and Mafraq governorates, according to a joint statement sent to The Jordan Times.

The six-day workshop aimed to build participants’ capacities to fight non-communicable diseases and train others on the topic. The sessions included topics such as fighting cancer by focusing on its risk factors and on the importance of raising breast cancer awareness, exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet and quitting smoking.

The JBCP, a programme under the leadership of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and The King Hussein Cancer Centre, also addressed gender issues and leadership skills, as well as educated participants on the importance of educating women about their health rights.

The JBCP is a national programme that orchestrates breast cancer early detection efforts nationwide and provides screening services to Jordanian women with support from the EU’s “Blended Learning and Behaviour Change for Local Development” programme, according to the statement.

The recent workshop was the second such effort, and will be followed by more workshops to raise community awareness and conduct activities in Maan and Mafraq governorates.
