AMMAN — A brief cold air mass expected to grip the Kingdom on Friday is forecast to subside in the afternoon, while a new cold wave is forecast to sweep across the country on Saturday around midnight, according to Arabiaweather.com.
The Jordanian weather forecast company said that on Friday during the early morning, the cold air mass will start impacting the Kingdom, significantly lowering temperatures and bringing heavy rainfall across the Kingdom.
The impact will temporarily taper off by Friday evening, and a new cold front after midnight will bring heavy rainfall in the north and the centre of the Kingdom by Saturday morning, with lower chances of rain in the north, according to Arabiaweather.com.
While the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecast snowfall in mountainous areas, especially in the south, on Friday night and at intervals on Saturday, Arabiaweather.com said that the chance of snowfall is “slim” and possible only on Saturday morning.
The JMD forecast that the second cold air mass will bring westerly brisk winds with powerful gusts of 80 kilometres per hour which are expected to raise dust in the Badia.
Over the weekend, the JMD reiterated its warning of slippery roads, the formation of torrents in areas that witness heavy rainfall and hail, as well as low visibility in mountainous areas due to fog formation and in Badia areas due to dusts raised by brisk winds.
According to the JMD, temperatures in Amman on Friday are expected to range between 10°C and 4°C and drop to between 7°C and 2°C on Saturday.
In Aqaba, temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 20°C and a low of 10°C on Friday, while on Saturday they are predicted to range between 18°C and 8°C, according to the JMD.
