CBJ, cyber security centre sign MoU

AMMAN — The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding to institutionalise relations in order to enhance the cyber security system at the national level, especially in the financial and banking sector. CBJ Governor Adel Sharkas and NCSC President Bassam Maharmeh signed the memo, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Sharkas said that the accelerating technological developments in ICT and digital payment systems led to cyber risks that are considered to be among the top obstacles that hinder the functioning of various sectors, mainly the financial and banking sector, in conducting their work at full efficiency.

He also noted that 68 per cent of the banking sector's transactions in 2021 were electronic, which allowed the clients with the option to not visit their respective banks in person. Maharmeh said that the centre is about to conduct a comprehensive review of several vital government institutions to ensure their commitment to several constraints.
