AMMAN — The Centre for Defending the Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) on Saturday launched a campaign to support media freedom on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3.
The annual campaign, which started eight years ago, aims at improving the values of freedom and highlighting that a free press means a free community, according to a CDFJ statement.
CDFJ President Nidal Mansour said in the statement that the occasion is celebrated to highlight the role of media and its position in the community, calling on dailies to unify efforts to ensure that journalism continues to be “a sacred profession” that respects the truth and defends democracy.
