Committee raises August prices of gasoline, diesel

AMMAN — The government’s fuel pricing committee on Wednesday decided to raise the price of fuel derivatives for August.

Per the committee’s decision, the price of one litre of unleaded 90-octane gasoline will go up from JD0.750 in July to JD0.775 in August, according to an Energy Ministry statement.

The price per litre of unleaded 95-octane gasoline will increase to JD1 in August, compared with JD0.970 in July.

The prices of diesel and kerosene will go up to JD0.605 per litre, compared with JD0.590 in July.

The panel said the price of gas cylinders will remain unchanged at JD7.

Prices of oil derivatives in the local market are calculated based on international prices, plus other costs including shipping and taxes.

In July, the committee for the first time, while pricing fuel, applied a fixed tax value on oil derivatives after the issuance of a Royal Decree approving the 2019 amendments to the special tax by-law that was published in the Official Gazette on June 2.

The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission on Wednesday also decided to maintain the “differences in fuel prices” category on monthly electricity bills for August at 10 fils per kilowatt-hour (kWh), according to a commission statement.

The “differences in fuel prices” category excludes households whose monthly consumption does not exceed 300kWh.
