AMMAN — The Kingdom on Thursday stressed that the decision of the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen on a complete ceasefire in Yemen for two weeks is an “important step” towards creating the appropriate conditions for facilitating the invitation of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to hold a meeting between the government and the Houthis, which aims to reach a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire agreement, a Foreign Ministry statement said on Thursday.
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that this “wise” decision reflects the “enduring” keenness of the coalition, under the leadership of Saudi Arabia, to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis that restores Yemen’s security and stability and avoids further human and economic suffering, according to the statement.
Safadi also highlighted the importance of Saudi Arabia’s efforts towards meeting Yemenis’ needs, as Saudi Arabia has announced that it will contribute $500 million to the United Nations humanitarian response plan for Yemen in 2020, in addition to $25 million to battle the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Safadi also reiterated Jordan’s keenness to make “every possible effort” to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, in accordance with approved references, the statement said.
