AMMAN — The Criminal Court has sentenced a 24-year-old man to seven years imprisonment for molesting a child in an Amman suburb in April 2014.
The court handed the defendant the maximum sentence after convicting him of molesting the boy, who was born in 1999 and was under the age of 15 at the time of the incident on April 14, 2014.
Court papers said the boy was walking on the street when the defendant lured him to his house.
“The man molested the teenager and he managed to escape and informed his family who filed a complaint,” the court verdict said.
The boy was taken to the Family Protection Department affiliated with the Public Security Department, where forensic units took samples from his body, according to the court verdict.
“A DNA test of the samples at the crime lab implicated the defendant,” the court added.
The victim’s family refused to drop charges against the defendant, who had pleaded not guilty during his opening trial earlier this year.
The tribunal comprised judges Fawzi Nahar, Ibrahim Bawareed and Mohammad Udwan.
The prosecutor had asked the court to impose the maximum punishment on the defendant as stipulated by law.
The verdict, which was issued by the tribunal at the end of last month, will automatically be reviewed by the Cassation Court.
