AMMAN — The Court of Cassation has upheld a September Criminal Court ruling sentencing a physiotherapist to three years in prison after he was convicted of molesting a teenager in May.
The court declared the man guilty of molesting the victim while conducting a physiotherapy session in Amman on May 27, and handed him the maximum punishment.
Court papers said the defendant went to the victim’s house to conduct a session for the victim and her grandfather.
“During the session, the defendant molested the 17-year-old victim by touching her private parts and attempting to kiss her,” court documents said.
The victim pushed the defendant away and informed her parents who filed a complaint against him, according to court transcripts.
The defendant contested the Criminal Court’s conviction, charging that “he was innocent and the tribunal based its ruling on contradictory statements by the victim”.
However, the higher court ruled that the Criminal Court followed the proper procedures and the defendant deserved the verdict he received.
