AMMAN — The Crown Prince Foundation (CPF) and the Jordan Academy of Arabic on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin the implementation of the CPF’s “Dhad” initiative.
The initiative, launched by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, takes its name from the distinctive sound and letter unique to the Arabic language, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.
The programme seeks to preserve the status and elegance of Arabic, in addition to developing methods which would enrich the language’s presence on the web.
The MoU was signed by academy Chairman Khaled Karaki and CPF CEO Tamam Mango.
As part of the MoU, the academy will be responsible for supervising the literary and cultural aspects of the initiative that include establishing a centre for the digitisation of Arabic, a centre to teach Arabic as a second language and a centre for Arabic calligraphy, according to Petra.
The MoU aims to fulfil the academy’s goal to spread the adequate use of the language and protect it, in addition to integrating with the CPF’s efforts to increase the youth’s participation in community development and leadership.
“Dhad” seeks to prepare “ambassadors” of the Arabic language who will work towards enhancing its role in various areas of knowledge and create a number of platforms for communication using the language, according to Petra.
