AMMAN — The National Society of Consumer Protection (CPS) on Wednesday urged consumers to avoid impulsive buying and to plan their Eid Al Fitr shopping in advance.
The CPS also recommended that shoppers should not delay their Eid Al Fitr shopping until the last minute and should compare prices before making purchases.
In a statement made available to The Jordan Times, CPS President Mohammad Obeidat emphasised that shoppers should always ask for a receipt or proof of purchase for potential future repairs, replacements, or refunds, adding that in the current challenging economic climate, it is essential not to overprice goods or intentionally hide their origins.
Obeidat also highlighted the need for increased market surveillance as the festive season approaches, urging relevant regulatory bodies to step up their field visits in the days leading up to Eid Al Fitr.
Obeidat also noted that a record number of people in the Kingdom are not engaging in the usual buying or preparation for Eid Al Fitr, as enthusiasm has waned due to the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip.
Sultan Allan, president of the Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate, recently predicted a decline in the overall sales value by no less than 25 per cent noting that there has been no significant increase in sales or in-store hoarding as is typically seen when people start preparing for Eid Al Fitr.
