Crown Prince joins volunteers on normal workday

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Tuesday joined volunteers in the Charity Clothing Bank, and participated in sorting and packing clothes to be distributed to underprivileged families during Ramadan.

During his visit to the Amman-based bank, affiliated with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), the Crown Prince praised the establishment as a humanitarian initiative that embodies the values of cooperation and solidarity in society and enhances the sense of responsibility towards the needy, according to a Royal Court statement.

The Crown Prince chatted with volunteers and voiced his appreciation for their efforts in fulfilling this charitable job.

During a tour of the bank’s sorting centre, JHCO Secretary General Ayman Mifleh briefed the Crown Prince on the work mechanism of voluntary teams, which sort clothes the bank receives from donors and prepare them for beneficiaries before Eid Al Fitr.  

The Crown Prince presented plaques to volunteers in recognition of their contributions and efforts in serving society, the statement added. 

The idea of the bank, established in 2013, is mainly based on securing the underprivileged with their basic needs of clothes across the Kingdom.

Since its inception, the bank has distributed some 1.8 million pieces of clothing to beneficiaries, in addition to implementing a series of programmes that aim at enhancing teamwork, developing social responsibility spirit and investing in the volunteers’ capabilities to serve the needy.

In an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Mifleh said that the Crown Prince’s participation in this charitable work is a message that is prone to boost voluntary work, especially in Ramadan. 

The bank receives clothes from donors and classifies them into summer and winter clothes, he said, adding that pieces which are not fit for use are shredded and used for making mattresses and cushions, which are distributed to charitable associations, Petra reported.

HRH Prince Rashid, chairman of JHCO’s board of trustees, and Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi accompanied HRH Crown Prince Hussein on the visit.
