AMMAN — A cold air mass accompanied by a depression is expected to affect the country on Friday, causing a drop in temperatures and bringing heavy rain, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).
The cold air mass and depression, centred over Cyprus, is forecast to start affecting the northern and central regions at noon on Friday, and gradually move to the southern region by evening, a JMD meteorologist said.
“The combined weather conditions will cause temperatures to drop five degrees below their annual average of 20°C during this time of the year, and rainfall will be heavy at times,” Raed Rafed told The Jordan Times on Thursday.
A drop in temperatures is forecast on Friday, when the weather will be cloudy, with thunderstorms and rainfall forecast, Rafed said.
Winds will be southwesterly turning to westerly brisk, while temperatures in Amman will range between a maximum of 18°C and a minimum of 8°C.
Another drop in temperatures is forecast on Saturday, when the weather will be relatively cold, cloudy and rainy, Rafed added, noting that rain and thunderstorms are also expected.
Daytime temperatures in the capital will reach a high of 15°C, dropping to a low of 7°C at night, while winds will be northwesterly brisk, with gusts at times, according to the meteorologist.
The country will remain under the impact of the cold air mass and the depression on Sunday, according to Rafed, who said the impact of the combined weather conditions will start to ease off starting Sunday night and chances of rainfall will become less.
The weather on Sunday will be relatively cold and cloudy with scattered showers during the day, he added.
Temperatures in Amman will range between a high of 15°C and a low of 7°C and winds will be westerly moderate, turning to southwesterly.
