‘Education Ministry keen on maintaining success of last two Tawjihi exams’

AMMAN — Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat on Saturday said the ministry is keen on maintaining the “success” of the last two sessions of the General Secondary Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) in the upcoming winter session.

At a meeting with ministry officials, Thneibat urged heads of education directorates “not to hesitate” in applying the rules when violations occur, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He noted that students will be banned from using pens other than those provided by the ministry, to minimise cheating attempts.

Meanwhile, the ministry will add 10 minutes to the duration of Tawjihi exams, Thneibat said, adding that the ministry will provide “qualified staff” to help students with disabilities sitting for these exams.

He noted that the ministry has looked “carefully” into comments on the exams over the past two sessions in order to maximise the positive aspects and solve the negative ones, according to Petra. 

Thneibat said the winter session examinations will take place in the same 422 halls where the summer session exams took place, a measure that helped maintain order and cut down expenses. 

This year’s Tawjihi winter session starts on December 27 and concludes in January 11, 2015, according to the ministry’s website.
