AMMAN — A Higher Education Ministry source has said that a committee will be formed to investigate the attack against the Al al-Bayt University President Dia-Eddin Arafeh.
A video has gone viral on social media networks showing a group of employees from Al al-Bayt University, in the Mafraq Governorate, storming Arafeh’s office and demanding his resignation.
The video showed a group of purported employees surround the president at his office and forcing him to leave while shouting “get out … get out”.
Speaking to Al Rai daily, the unnamed Higher Education source added that the university’s lawyer has been tasked with initiating legal proceedings against those who stormed Arafeh’s office.
Minister of Higher Education Adel Tweisi has been quoted in news websites as describing the action by the protesting employees as “illegal.”
In the video, the angry employees claimed that the situation at the university in Mafraq, some 80 km northeast of Amman, has been “deteriorating and going backwards since Arafeh was appointed,” demanding that the president’s term is not renewed.
