Failed robbery leads man to steal car with driver inside, suspect arrested

AMMAN — A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) security team has arrested a suspected thief who harmed a woman while trying to steal her vehicle, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson said on Saturday.

The spokesperson said that the incident was captured in a video that went viral on social media, showing a vehicle being robbed while the driver was parking in Amman's Seventh Circle on Thursday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The incident started when the suspect tried to rob a house in the area. He failed to complete the robbery after a resident of the house saw him. The suspect then attacked the resident and fled the scene, the PSD official said.

When the suspect fled the house, he saw a woman parking her vehicle, and stole the vehicle. The woman was stuck in the vehicle while the robber continued driving, dragging the woman for several metres, the official said.

The woman sustained several injuries and was transferred to hospital, while the suspect fled the scene.

According to the spokesperson, a special investigation team was formed to follow up on the incident. The team identified the suspect in "record time" and arrested the suspect in Russeifa in possession of the vehicle, the spokesperson said. 

The suspect confessed to trying to rob the house and causing harm to the driver, the PSD official said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
