AMMAN — The financial disclosure department by-law has gone into effect after being published recently in the Official Gazette, Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni said.
The department was established under Article 21 of the Illicit Fortunes Law.
Talhouni said the law increases the number of individuals from the public and private sectors who are required to submit financial disclosures.
The department is a judicial body specialised in verifying complaints filed against corruption suspects, the minister said, stressing that the law also prevents character assassination by stipulating that anyone who files a written complaint of illicit gains against someone with the intent of insulting him/her faces a jail term of no less than one year.
