Five suffer food poisoning from wild mushrooms in Ajloun

AJLOUN — Five residents of the towns of Ebbin and Ablin in Ajloun Governorate suffered food poisoning on Thursday after consuming wild mushrooms, the Civil Defence Department (CDD) said.

Hani Smadi said the patients were taken to Iman Public Hospital for treatment.

Hospital director Ahmad Zghoul said they were discharged after receiving the proper treatment, noting that the hospital registered 19 cases of food poisoning due to consumption of wild mushrooms in the same week.

Symptoms include nausea, diarrhoea, poor vision, excessive sweating and headache, Zghoul said, adding that those affected begin exhibiting symptoms 15 minutes after consuming the mushrooms.

Smadi urged the public to identify the type of wild herbs and mushrooms before consuming them.
