FM congratulates Iraqi peer, calls Algeria’s Messahel

AMMAN — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Thursday telephoned his Iraqi counterpart Mohamed Alhakim to congratulate him on assuming office in the new Iraqi government.

In the phone conversation, Safadi stressed Jordan’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with Iraq, and said that Jordan stands side by side with Iraq in facing all challenges and in reconstruction efforts, a ministry statement said.

He also stressed that Jordan will remain supportive of Iraq, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, “who believes that Iraq’s security, stability and prosperity is an essential requirement for the security and stability of the region”.

The two ministers affirmed that the Jordanian-Iraqi relations are deep-rooted and that their development in all fields is a mutual goal.

Safadi and Alhakim agreed to sustain communication and meet as soon as possible in continuation of the coordination and consultation process to enhance cooperation and joint action.

Also on Thursday, Safadi telephoned his Algerian counterpart Abdelkader Messahel and discussed with him means of developing ties between the two countries, as well as the latest developments in the region. 

The two ministers stressed the keenness of the two countries to enhance cooperation and coordination in all fields, and the need to take more practical steps to deepen relations, reflecting the interest shown by the leaders of the two countries to the ties between Jordan and Algeria.

The two ministers praised the development of relations and agreed to continue communication and consultation on ways to strengthen relations in various fields, Petra reported.
