FM, Norwegian counterpart talk ties, regional developments

AMMAN — Foreign  Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi and his Norwegian counterpart Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide on Wednesday discussed regional developments and means of bolstering cooperation, voicing solidarity in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to a ministry statement.

The two ministers, over the phone, reviewed international and regional developments, notably the Palestinian cause and efforts related to ensuring the financial needs of UNRWA. 

Safadi lauded Norway's “clear” support for efforts towards resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution, in accordance with international law, highlighting  Norway’s effective role in this arena, mainly chairing the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC),  a body that serves as a coordinator for the international assistance offered to the Palestinians. 

Talks also went over prospects of joint action to “open a real horizon” for resolving the conflict and achieving peace through serious, effective and direct negotiations on the basis of international law.

Jordan that has endured the consequences of regional crises will continue working, in cooperation with Norway, friendly countries and partners towards resolving the crises and addressing their repercussions, Safadi stressed.

The top Norwegian diplomat highlighted the two countries’ distinguished cooperation, strong partnership and friendship, stressing that coordination over all regional issues, including the peace process, will continue.

Both ministers also agreed to continue consultation and coordination and hold a meeting at the earliest to follow up on efforts boosting cooperation and developing Jordanian-Norwegian relations in all fields, as well as regional developments.
