AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths on Wednesday went over efforts aimed to resolve the Yemeni crisis and end the conflict through a political solution that restores security and stability to the Arab country.
Safadi highlighted the importance of intensifying international efforts to end the crisis, whose humanitarian repercussions are exacerbating, through a political solution based on UN Security Council 2216 and accredited references, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
In this regard, the foreign minister also called for applying the Stockholm Agreement, Hudaydah Agreement and the Saudi initiative to reach a political solution in Yemen and end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Safadi also renewed the Kingdom’s condemnation of the terrorist acts perpetrated by the Houthi militia, targetting Saudi Arabia and its security. He stressed that the security of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf countries and Jordan is intertwined.
He also expressed Amman’s solidarity with any procedures Riyadh implements to preserve the security of the Gulf kingdom.
Safadi also expressed appreciation of Griffiths’ relentless efforts to end the Yemeni crisis over the past three years. Griffiths is leaving office by the end of the month and assumes office as UN undersecretary general for humanitarian affairs.
For his part, Griffiths praised the Kingdom’s continuous support to the UN mission to Yemen and hosting its headquarters, and commended the Kingdom’s pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in efforts to resolve regional conflicts and crises and achieve security and stability in the Middle East.
