Gov’t to issue smart IDs free of charge

AMMAN — The Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to issue the smart civil ID cards free of charge, starting Saturday, March 18, until June 15, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Interior Minister Ghaleb Zu’bi earlier stated that the current civil identification card will become invalid as of June 15. He explained that the new smart ID cards will be required to complete transactions, urging citizens to apply for them through the Civil Status and Passports Department branches around the Kingdom.
