Government debt reaches JD32.301 billion

AMMAN — The government debt increased to JD447 million at the end of October, compared with September of the previous year, the Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday.
Finance Ministry also said that debt reached JD32.301 billion or 89.6 per cent of the estimated GDP for October, compared with JD30.667 billion at the end of 2022 or 88.8 per cent of the GDP for 2022, including the debts of the National Electricity Power Company and Water Authority amounting to about JD8.8 billion, Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The data also indicated that the external debt (budgeted and guaranteed) after excluding the government's dues to the Social Security Investment Fund, stood at JD17.914 billion at the end of October 2023, or 49.7 per cent of the estimated GDP for October 2023, up from JD16.488 billion, or 47.7 per cent of the GDP in the same period last year
In October 2023, the external debt interest amounted to approximately JD34.9 million, while external installment payments totalled JD 229.5 million, Petra added.
The balance of the domestic debt stood at approximately JD14.386 billion by the end of October, or 39.9 per cent of the estimated GDP, compared with JD14.178 billion, or 41 per cent of the GDP recorded in the same period of 2022.
