Gov’t allocates JD40m in 2024 budget to boost national industries

AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali on Saturday said that the government has allocated JD40 million in the 2024 budget to support the national industries development programme.

Speaking at a meeting of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, hosted by the Irbid Chamber of Industry, Shamali emphasised the programme's contributions to bolstering industrial sector and the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

Shamali outlined the financial support structure, revealing that large-scale industries will be eligible for grants of JD500,000, while grants valuing 250,000 to JD350,000 will be extended to SMEs 

"Despite the recent geopolitical turmoil, including the Israeli aggression on Gaza, essential commodity prices remained stable and the prices for around 75 items has decreased."

Shamali said that Jordan had stopped using the port of Haifa for exports to the United States and other global markets, and that a new export route has been inaugurated from the port of Aqaba, Petra reported. 

 He said that the Jordanian products constitute 30 to 50 per cent of Palestine's imports, Petra said.
