AMMAN — Nour Badawyeh and her three children were among 250 orphans and guests waiting to break their fast at a Ramadan Iftar organised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs when HRH Crown Prince Hussein walked in to join the guests.

Badawyeh’s son Ahmad also got more than he expected that night, as he got to sit next to the Crown Prince and pray with him.

“I was so happy to be able to sit and chat with the Crown Prince and to meet him in person. This is a day I will never forget,” the 12-year-old told The Jordan Times.

“He is such a kind and humble person. He asked me about my favourite sport and I told him it's football,” Ahmad, whose father died in 2010, added.

The boy said he was able to tell Crown Prince Hussein about his future dreams. “I told him I want to be a surgeon when I grow up because I want to be able to help people and save lives because I believe this is the right thing to do,” Ahmad recalled.

His mother, Noor, also remembered her happiness when she saw Crown Prince Hussein enter the hall to eat with them.

“What happened that day was not strange to me. I am an orphan myself and many of the Royal family members used to come and check on us when I was at the orphanage. I am really grateful that HRH was here with us,” she told The Jordan Times.

Dozens of orphans were excited to pose for selfies with Crown Prince Hussein, while others greeted him, thanking him for his kind gesture.

Ahmad’s sister Raya, 13, was one of the children who rushed to take a selfie with HRH.

“This was a great day and the first thing I did was to post my photo with the Crown Prince on Facebook,” she said.

Ahmad’s brother Ramzi also expressed his gratitude to see his younger brother get the chance to meet the Crown Prince in person.

“This is a special day for my brother and our family. Surely a day to remember for a long time,” Ramzi said.

The Zakat Fund at the Awqaf Ministry holds an annual Iftar banquet for orphans as part of celebrating the Orphan Day in the Muslim world.
