AMMAN — The country will be affected by a relatively hot air mass on Monday that will push temperatures five degrees above their annual average for this time of year, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

The hot air mass, which originates from the east, will bring hot and dry winds, meteorologist Abdul Munem Qaralleh told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

“The air mass will start affecting the country on Monday and continue until Tuesday. As of Wednesday, temperatures will gradually start to drop back to their annual average of 30ºC for this time of year,” Qaralleh said.

On Monday, the weather will be relatively hot in mountainous areas and hot in the rest of the country, he added.

Winds will be northeasterly moderate, turning northwesterly in the afternoon, while temperatures in the capital will range between a high of 35ºC and a low of 23ºC, according to the JMD.

Hot to relatively hot weather is forecast on Tuesday as the impact of the air mass continues, Qaralleh said, noting that temperatures in Amman will be the same as Monday.

Winds will be northeasterly moderate, turning northwesterly brisk and raising dust in the afternoon.

“As the impact of the relatively hot air mass is forecast to ease off on Wednesday, temperatures will drop tangibly and return to be around their annual average for this time of the year,” Qaralleh said.

The weather will be moderate across the country on Wednesday, but relatively hot in Aqaba and the Jordan Valley, according to the JMD.

Temperatures in the capital will reach a maximum of 29ºC during the daytime and to drop to a minimum of 17ºC at night, while winds will northwesterly moderate to brisk, raising dust.
