House speaker, DMAS chief discuss reform process

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Abdulmunim Oddat on Thursday met with Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS) Isabel Santos, Head of the EU Delegation in Jordan Maria Hadjitheodosiou, and the EU parliamentary delegation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, Oddat focused on the recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System (RCMPS), describing them as “a reflection to a state of consensus between different political views”.
He highlighted that the Lower House bears the national responsibility of materialising the reform process through a comprehensive review of laws regulating political life, in accordance with Royal directives.
Extending thanks to the EU for supporting Jordan in various fields, he stressed that the EU-Jordan partnership is characterised by “mutual trust and congruent stances towards a number of issues”.
Santos lauded Jordan's role in seeking to achieve regional security and stability in the region under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, underlining the strong partnership between the EU and Jordan.
She stressed that the EU will continue supporting social, economic and democratic reforms in Jordan, pointing to the importance of joint parliamentary work to serve common interests and the peoples of the region.
