AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khaled Huneifat on Monday discussed the No Food Waste initiative with UN World Food Programme (WFP) Representative Alberto Correia Mendes and UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf.

Huneifat highlighted a number of social practices leading to the accumulation of food waste, stressing the need to benefit from food surplus through recycling and distribution.
He said that 40 per cent of food in Jordan is wasted, noting that the Kingdom and the world are currently experiencing climate change and a scarcity of food and production.
He also stressed the need to proceed with the initiative through partnerships with ministries, official institutions, associations and clubs in the upcoming days.
Attendees welcomed the initiative, which comes in line with WFP and FAO recommendations as well as global trends to control food waste, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
