AMMAN — Enhancing women's political participation and addressing the challenges they face in the electoral process are shared responsibilities of the Independent Elections Commission (IEC), political parties, civil society institutions and the media, Chairman of the IEC Mousa Maaytah said on Saturday during a workshop titled "Electoral violence against women".
The workshop was held in cooperation with the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) and support from UN Women, according to IEC statement.
JNCW Secretary-General Maha Ali said that the workshop aimed to define electoral violence against women, identify its types and patterns and suggest solutions to address it.
UN Women representative Bushra Abu Shahout said that the strategic partnership with IEC and JNCW is part of the organisation’s support for the IEC's efforts to enhance women's participation in elections.
